Table of Contents

Fbet.info is a Bulgarian sports betting website with over a decade of history — 45 bookmaker and casino review pages and more than 22,000 football prediction articles, all built on a custom WordPress theme that had become hard to manage and extend. The client wanted the whole website rebuilt on Akurai, but with a strict condition: the URL structure of the reviews and everything else could not be changed.

Goals

The goals of the migration were clear:

  • Transfer 45 bookmaker, casino, and bonus review pages, plus 22,000+ football prediction articles, without losing data.
  • Keep every existing URL exactly as it was, with no restructuring, to avoid any SEO disruption.
  • Convert the website's custom review page fields into Akurai's review structure, without manual re-entry.
  • Rebuild the website's custom features — affiliate buttons, star ratings, internal links — so they'd survive future theme updates.

Preparing the Migration

The project began with a staging setup to allow development and testing before anything went live. One of the first technical steps was mapping the website's custom fields — spread across multiple review pages and a separate bookmaker data store — into Akurai's review fields. This ensured that bonuses, ratings, logos, and affiliate links and other fields transferred correctly without needing to be re-entered by hand.

Review pages were converted to Akurai's review post type and the slug was adjusted in order to keep every URL exactly as it was. The 22,000+ prediction articles were carried over into a custom plugin and restyled to match the new design and look native to the new theme.

A lot of the website's custom fields turned out to be unused as the content had been copied into the page body. These were identified and left out of the migration rather than carried over.

Key Adjustments During the Process

As with any large website migration, a few details needed hands-on attention. For example:

  • Sticky bottom banner: A sticky banner was added to review pages so a bookmaker offer stays visible no matter how far a visitor scrolls.
  • Sticky in-page navigation: A jump-to-section menu was added to review pages — sidebar on desktop, top of page on mobile — built automatically from the page's headings.
  • TV schedule: A new plugin pulls in upcoming football broadcast times and displays them in a homepage widget, with a link through to the full schedule.
  • Bet of the day: A new custom post type lets the client publish and update a featured daily pick themselves. The homepage automatically shows whichever pick is selected and links through to the full write-up.
  • Notification bell: A bell icon was added to the header that opens a closable panel of bookmaker bonuses, so new offers can be promoted site-wide without editing a page.

None of these were part of the original scope — they came up naturally once the client could see the new site taking shape and started spotting things worth improving along the way.

Outcome

The end result was a successful migration of FBET.info to the Akurai theme. All 45 review pages, 22,000+ prediction articles, other general pages and posts carried over with their URLs untouched, and the website moved from an aging, hard-to-maintain custom theme to a modern, supported one.

The website now benefits from a redesigned, conversion-focused homepage rebuilt using the theme's native blocks alongside several custom ones — top offers, bet of the day, TV schedule, and image banners. Reviews are now easy to manage, and the website has custom page templates for its other content types.
